Naftalie Shigwedha Amukwelele
Naftalie Shigwedha Amukwelele is a former street Gangster turned multiple award winning Gospel rapper known as D-Naff, who sings inspirational gospel classics.He started his singing career back in the early 1990 while still a student at Jan Jonker Afrikaner High School under a group called 4 men’s choice which was being managed by Jay Malgas, and later became the Glamour Boys, under which he toured France in 1998 during the Soccer world cup under the sponsorship of the Franco-Namibian Cultural Center in Windhoek. After this trip D-Naffwent on to help establish a Gospel group called Eagles in flight which later became Heaven’s Dialect. The group however disbanded with the emigration of its lead producer Inna Goroh to the USA to pursue further studies. Determined to make it in the music industry, the Artist went on to establish another group called the Eagle’s Mentality, which became the winner of the 2005 best Namibian Gospel at the Sanlam/NBC music awards. It was then that he gained the opportunity to become a part of what was soon to become a National phenomenon, D-Naff. There was no stopping for him; he therefore decided to release his first solo album entitled “Oshagwana” in 2006 followed by his second album entitled “iikele yuuyunimbu”, which won him an award at the Namibia Music Awards, in the Gospel category. He is currently the best-selling Gospel Artist, and the Country’s top and most requested performing Gospel star. He also won the award for Best Gospel at the 2009 Sanlam/NBC music awards. His music enjoys airplay in all radio stations across the country as well as Radio phoenix in Zambia, one of the most requested Artists in Namibia indeed. His third album entitled “Above the limit” was highly promoted in the USA and London, during his 1 month and 2 weeks tour, which started from the 2nd May to the 11 June 2008. During this tour, D-Naffhas visited New York City, performed in Chicago, performed in Washington D.C and ended his performances in London. He also shot a music video at the white house (Washington DC), time square (New York) & London, (England) His fourth album is entitled “The Untold Truth” which is his 4rth album followed by his fifth studio album entitled “Reloaded” which won him an award at the 2011 NAMAS music awards in the Gospel category and “Undisputed” which is his sixth album and which also took home the best Gospel award at the 2013 NAMAS. He has also released an album containing all his number one (1) hit songs entitled “Greatest hits” His eighth album entitled “Eschatology” deals mostly with the events of the last days leading to the return of the Christ spoken of in the book of Matthew 24 by our Lord Jesus Christ, and the album was also nominated in the 2014 NAMA awards, in the best Gospel category. His latest offering is album number nine (9) entitled “Reborn” which deals mostly with new beginnings and has won two awards at the NAMAS(Namibia Annual Music Awards) 2015,namely; Best Gospel and Most socially responsible Artist of the year. D-Naff was appointed national youth Ambassador by the National Youth Council of Namibia in April 2008,a position he served very well, and is a motivational and inspirational speaker and has visited several schools in Namibia including the University of Namibia, Windhoek College of Education, Ongwediva College of Education and the Polytechnic of Namibia, encouraging the youth to stand out, to stand up and to stand for a cause that is greater than the desire for personal comfort and immediate pleasure. He is currently the KORA Awards 2014/2015 Goodwill Ambassador to Namibia in the fight against the Ebola virus.
